Interface Anatomy 101 by

Thanks to Jamie for his excellent introduction presentation on integrations.

Abstract

Leading research firms estimate that over 40% of the average IT organization?s budget is spent on building and maintaining interfaces. Over the last several years, the Java development community has been flooded with tools intended to facilitate the implementation of a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), an Enterprise Services Bus (ESB), and data transformations.

This session will focus on the primary IT objective behind these technologies ? interfacing disparate systems. Just as business applications can be built on object-oriented design patterns, the same can be done with integration frameworks. During the session, the concept of an ?interface? will be decomposed, and the component elements examined. A number of oft-forgotten design considerations will be addressed.

PilotFish Technology is a software and services company focused on delivering on-time, on-budget, high-quality implementations of integration projects. Over the last 8 years, PilotFish has developed the XCS eiConsole and XCS eiPlatform. These tools provide an extensible Java and XML-based framework for the development, deployment, and maintenance of interfaces.
